Italy's [ Images ] newly crowned French Open [ Images ] champion Francesca Schiavone fell at the first hurdle at Wimbledon [ Images ] on Monday, losing 6-7, 7-5, 6-1 to Russian Vera Dushevina.
Schiavone, who took a fairytale first Grand Slam win at Roland Garros [ Images ] earlier this month, showed much of the tenacity that saw her triumph in Paris in the opening set, taking the tiebreak 7-0 on Court Two.
But Dushevina, the world number 56, found her rhythm in the second and raced through the decider to book a place in the second round for the fourth straight year.
Dushevina will now play Bulgaria's Tsvetana Pironkova [ Images ] for a place in the third round.
