It was a day of mixed fortunes for Leander Paes [ Images ] at the French Open [ Images ] in Paris on Tuesday.
Defending champions Paes and Lukas Dlouhy [ Images ] remained on course for a second successive French Open title by advancing to the semi-finals of the men's doubles with a straight-set win.
The third-seeded Indo-Czech pair defeated eighth seeds Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski of Poland 6-1, 6-3.
Paes and Dlouhy will now take on the 10th seeded Austrian-Israeli pair of Julian Knowle and Andy Ram [ Images ], who beat the Brazilian duo of Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares 6-7(3), 6-2, 6-0 in another quarter-final.
The Brazilian duo had upset top seeds Bob and Mike Bryan [ Images ] 6-3, 7-6 in the second round.
However, the Indian along with Zimbabwean partner Cara Black [ Images ] were beaten in the mixed doubles quarter-finals.
The duo, seeded second, lost 6-3, 6-7(2), 10-7 to the Kazakhstan-Austrian combine of Yaroslava Shvedova [ Images ] and Julian Knowle.
In the men's doubles match that lasted barely an hour, Paes and Dlouhy blew away their rivals in the opening set. The Indo-Czech pair converted all the three break points they earned to wrap up the opener in just 23 minutes.
The favourites wavered a bit in the second set, conceding five double faults, but with a 100 per cent break-point conversion, sealed it in 35 minutes.
Paes is the lone Indian left in the tournament.
Mahesh Bhupathi [ Images ], along with his Belarussian partner Max Mirnyi [ Images ], had exited in the second round.
The fifth seeded duo lost to the Spanish duo of Marc Lopez and Pere Riba in straight sets.
Also, Rohan Bopanna [ Images ] and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi's [ Images ] doubles campaign was cut short in the second round by a straight-set defeat against local pair of Julien Benneteau [ Images ] and Michael Llodra.
The unseeded Indo-Pak pair lost the men's doubles clash 5-7, 3-6 to the 15th seed local favourites.
