Third seeds Paes and Jurgen Melzer [ Images ] of Austria beat Brazil's [ Images ] Thomaz Belluci and Serbia's Janko Tipsaveric 6-3, 6-3 in the second round of the $3,240,000 hard court event.

Melzer had also shocked top seed and world number one Rafael Nadal [ Images ] 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 in the singles pre-quarter-finals.

Bopanna and his Pakistani partner Aisam-ul-haq Qureshi [ Images ] scored a 6-3, 7-5 win over eighth seeds Dick Norman [ Images ] of Belgiam and South African Wesley Moodie [ Images ].

Mahesh Bhupathi [ Images ] and his Belarusian partner Max Mirnyi [ Images ], seeded fifth, also advanced to the quarter-finals with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Marc Lopez and Tommy Robredo [ Images ].

They will next take on fourth seeds Lukasz Kubot [ Images ] and Oliver Marach [ Images ].
