Italy's Pirelli has been appointed as the single tyre supplier for the Formula One world championship for three years starting in 2011, the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) said on Wednesday.
Japanese manufacturer Bridgestone announced last year that it would pulling out of the sport at the end of the 2010 season and French company Michelin was also among candidates to take over.
The Formula One teams had wanted the tyre decision to be taken as soon as possible because the choice of manufacturer has an influence on design plans for their cars.
