Latvian Ernests Gulbis [ Images ], a projected third-round opponent for world number one Rafael Nadal [ Images ], has withdrawn from Wimbledon [ Images ] because of a hamstring injury, tournament organisers said on Sunday.
The 21-year-old, who posted a victory over Roger Federer [ Images ] this year, was seeded 27th at Wimbledon.
His absence means Germany's [ Images ] Philipp Petzschner takes over Gulbis's spot in the draw as the 33rd seed. Petzschner's place in the draw is taken by a lucky loser Santiago Ventura.
Gulbis joins Radek Stepanek, Ivo Karlovic [ Images ], Richard Gasquet, Mario Ancic and David Nalbandian [ Images ] as high-profile casualties before the tournament has even started.
Former world number one Dinara Safina [ Images ] withdrew from the women's event on Saturday.
