India beat Canada in women's hockey series opener

The Indian women's hockey team got off to a winning start in the four-Test series against Canada, beating the hosts 3-2 in the first match at Tamanawis Park, Surrey, on Wednesday.

India led 1-0 at half-time after captain Surinder Kaur scored from a penalty-corner in the 15th minute.

Ritu Rani (53rd minute) and Rani Rampal (61st minute) were the other goal-scorers for the visiting team.

Thea Culley (41st minute) and Robyn Pewdleton (69th minute) reduced the margin of defeat for the hosts.

India earned three penalty-corners, and converted two.

The second Test in the series will be played at the same venue on Thursday.
