The unseeded Indo-Romanian pair shocked their fifth seed rivals 6-3, 1-6, 10-6 in the second round of the $2,000,000 hard court event.

They had earlier beaten local pair Melanie Oudin [ Images ] and Jamie Hampton 6-4, 7-6 in the opening round.

They will next take on the winners of the match between Kveta Peschke/ Katarina Srebotnik and Maria Kirilenko/Victoria Azarenka [ Images ].

Sania had failed to make the singles main draw after losing the first round of the qualifying event to 16th seed Serbian Bojana Jovanovski.
