B K S Iyengar, renowned yoga guru and founder of Iyengar Yoga, turns 90 on December 14.
Iyenger, who runs the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune, has been practicing yoga for over 75 years. He is widely credited for popularising yoga across the world.
His book The Light on Yoga has been published in 18 languages. There are Iyengar yoga associations in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, Spain, Russia and China and several other countries.
He added yet another feather to his cap recently, when he was appointed the first president of the newly constituted Indian Yoga Association.
The yogacharya firmly believes that yoga should be made compulsory in schools and colleges across India, as practicing yoga regularly can prevent illnesses.
