TN, Karnataka to reinforce STF to hunt for Veerappan

Tara Shankar Sahay in New Delhi

Faced with another abduction crisis involving Veerappan, Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna and his Tamil Nadu counterpart J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday agreed to reinforce their respective Special Task Forces constituted specifically to nab the sandalwood smuggler.

"I had a very cordial meeting with the honourable chief minister of Tamil Nadu. We discussed various issues, including the Veerappan menace," Krishna told reporters in Karnataka Bhavan in Delhi.

"We will request the Centre to assist us with the latest equipment for surveillance and intelligence gathering," he said.

Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani, now in Bangalore to attend a BJP meet, 'is also seized of this matter', Krishna added.

He brushed aside talk of differences with Jayalalithaa on the Veerappan issue.
