Chief ministers of Karnataka, TN to meet on Tuesday

This is a scheduled meeting and Karnataka's S M Krishna was expected to leave for a tour of the US later on Wednesday.

The meeting assumes added significance in view of the abduction of a Karnataka ex-minister by brigand Veerappan, who operates in the forests of Karnataka and neighbouring Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Monday sought to blame her Karnataka counterpart for the abduction of ex-minister H Nagappa by Veerappan, saying the poacher got 'strength and courage' only after Inspector General Kempaiah, who was heading the Karnataka Special Task Force, was transferred.

Krishna has refused to be draw into the debate and prefers to concentrate on efforts to secure the release of former Karnataka minister H Nagappa now in the clutches of the sandalwood smuggler.

He is expected to broach the issue with his Tamil Nadu counterpart Jayalalithaa later in the day.
