Patel rules out dissolution of assembly

Karnataka Chief Minister J H Patel today ruled out the dissolution of the state assembly, following the resignation of three ministers from his government.

However, the three ministers, led by R V Deshpande, who have joined Ramakrishna Hegde's Lok Shakthi, have decided to support the trust vote.

Denying reports that former prime minister H D Deve Gowda had brought pressure for dissolution of the House, Patel told the media that the outcome of the Lok Sabha election could not be construed as a mandate on the state government.

Meanwhile, Ramakrishna Hegde's Lok Shakthi today termed as 'superfluous and ridiculous' the convening of a one-day session of the assembly on January 27 to take up a motion of vote of confidence on the Patel government.

In a memorandum to the governor, the Lok Shakthi said the convening of the session would amount to an unconstitutional exercise of political power to influence the voter.
