Digital animation film to bring alive Raj Kapoor, MGR

Raj KapoorIndia's great movie stars -- Raj Kapoor and M G Ramachandran, or MGR, will be brought alive through digital animation and photo-realistic 3D graphics by a Pentamedia Graphics-3DMaxmedia joint venture.

M G Ramachandran (MGR) Pentamedia Graphics Limited and 3DMaxmedia Inc, US have joined hands to create high-end digital entertainment content using cutting-edge tools for Internet, cinema and television media.

Email this report to a friend The new company will be a 50-50 joint venture between Pentamedia and 3DMaxmedia, to be based in India and the US.

The joint venture company has announced its proposed project of bringing two of the greatest movie stars of India, MGR and Raj Kapoor, alive through digital animation and photo-realistic 3D graphics.

For the first time in the film industry, the concept of combining legendary virtual artists with famous live artists will be used.

The movie will have Tamil and Hindi versions and will be a family entertainer. The English version of the film will be released through the Internet.

The movie is currently in its pre-production stage and will be directed and scripted by the entertainment veterans of international repute.

The path-breaking digital technology, to be created by the joint venture, will enable viewers to watch the movie in theatres as well as over the broadband Internet.

The proposed movie will be one of the first interactive films in the world over the Internet. For the first time in the film industry, the viewers will be able to interact with the movie with multiple choices of story telling, double action/trip action choices artist dresses and background.

V Chandrasekaran, chairman and chief executive officer of Pentamedia Graphics Limited, said: "We have come a long way in technology from 2D to 3D. The time has now arrived for creating the 'real' movie with virtual artists using digital animation technologies, something what has not been possible by traditional technology."

The company will use Hewlett-Packard's high performance workstations and e-services framework to deliver this unique project.

The proposed movie will be completed in nine months by a 100-member digital animation team.

World-class experts from Hollywood and leading professors from top US universities will back the production.
