Two huge chances for India in quick succession. But fail to convert them.

Green card for India. Soon Germany's Anne Schroder also gets a green card. Germans fail to capitalise on the opportunity as the ball goes wide. Yellow card for India! They have one player less, India in trouble. Meanwhile, Germans are lurking near the Indian goal.

In the 4th quarter, India try without luck to break down the German defence.

We are into the final five minutes of the game now.

The Indian women could not catch up today and lost 2-0 to Germany. They lost 5-1 to Netherlands in their first match.

Can the Indian women fight back? They are scheduled to play Great Britain, Ireland and South Africa now.

Four teams go through to the quarterfinals.

He lost his first round bout 0-5 against Erbieke Tuoheta of China in the Men's Middleweight (75kg) in the round of 32.

After losing the first two rounds, the third round was won by the Indian but even though there was intent in his punches, he was already on the backfoot having lost the first round.

13:45   Loses 0-4 to Polcanova

World No. 17 Sofia Polcanova beat India's Manika Batra 4-0 in 3rd round to book a spot in the last 16.

Batra lost 8-11, 2-11, 5-11, 7-11 in a lop-sided contest.

She was totally dominated by her higher-ranked opponent in a match that lasted 27 minutes.

Sharath Kamal is the lone Indian left in the fray in table tennis singles.

Batra has just no answers to Pulcanova's game and falls short yet again, losing the fourth game 7-11 and with that she loses 0-4 to be knocked out of the Olympics.

There is no relenting from the Austrian World No 17 as she takes the 3rd game 11-5 to go 3-0 up against Manika.

Batra needs to up her game to survive in this contest. The quality of table tennis on show from the Austrian is of another level altogether!

Batra loses 2-11 after a lopsided 2nd game. Polcanova gave the Indian no chance to settle and won the 2nd game in just 4 minutes.

The left-handed Polcanova takes the first game 11-8. Batra tested the World No. 17 but in the battle of nerves, the Austrian held hers to take a 1-0 lead.

They have met only once before -- on the junior circuit, ten years ago -- where Polcanova had beaten the India.

Will the India do a one-up on her this time? Let's wait and watch.

South Korea obliterated India 6-0 in the quarter-finals of the men's team archery event on Monday to advance to the semifinal, where they will face off against host Japan, who had their own convincing win over the United States.

The South Korean men's team has taken gold in the event five times at the Olympics, including most recently at Rio in 2016.

Japan beat the United States 5-1 to get to the semis.

12:42   Dutch men's doubles player Rojer tests positive

The Dutch men's doubles team has withdrawn from the Tokyo Games after one of the pair, Jean-Julien Rojer, tested positive for COVID-19, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) said.

Rojer is the first tennis player and the sixth member of the Dutch Olympic delegation to test positive so far. The others include a skateboarder, a taekwondo player, a rower and two staff of the rowing team.

Rojer and his partner Wesley Koolhof, who were scheduled to play in the second round on Monday afternoon, have been placed in isolation, the ITF said.

Their opponents, Marcus Daniell and Michael Venus of New Zealand, will receive a walkover into the quarter-finals.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Dutch delegation thus swelled to six.

Earlier, the organisers, in their daily COVID-19 update, announced that three athletes, four contractors, eight Games-concerned personnel and one Games employee have been found to be COVID positive, taking the number to 148.

All the three athletes are not residents of the Olympic Village, which has reported 16 cases since it was opened.

One Games-connected personnel and a contractor are residents of Japan in the fresh additions.

The three athletes and seven Games-concerned personnel have been put under the mandatory 14-day quarantine.

The total number of Games-concerned personnel to have tested positive so far stood at 83 after the addition of 8 new cases.

India is proud of you, Bhavani!

image
11:24   Skeet Shooting: Mairaj-Bajwa fail to make final

India's Sumit Nagal has evidently struggled so far against World No 2, Russia's Daniil Medvedev in their 2nd round match of the Men's singles tennis event.

Nagal has lost the first set 2-6.

A little while ago, India's Mairaj Ahmad Khan and Angad Vir Singh Bajwa failed to qualify for men's skeet final.

11:17   Finish on 25th and 18th spots respectively

Not so good news coming in from the shooting range. As expected, India's Mairaj Ahmad Khan and Angad Vir Singh Bajwa have failed to qualify for men's skeet final.

10:45   Satwik-Chirag lose 2-0 in badminton

More disappointing news for India coming in from Tokyo as the Indian archery team of Atanu Das, Pravin Jadhav and Tarundeep Rai lose to South Korea 0-6 in the Men's Team quarter-final.

Moments ago, the Indian pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty lost to World No 1 pair Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo and Marcus Fernaldi 13-21, 12-21 in their badminton 2nd round match men's doubles match.

10:36   Beaten by World No 1 pair 21-13 21-12

Satwiksairaj-Chirag lose to World No 1 pair Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo and Marcus Fernaldi 13-21, 12-21 in their 2nd round match.

They face British duo Ben Lane and Sean Vendy on Tuesday.

After the break, the Indonesians have reeled off four quick points while the Indians have only added one since.

There is clearly a lack of co-ordination between the Indians. That toe injury must be bothering Chirag.

The Indonesians are steamrolling the Indian pair in this second game and they have taken the game 21-12.

Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo and Marcus Fernaldi beat Satwiksairaj-Chirag 21-13 21-12.

The Indonesians serve to start the second game and the Indians have grabbed the early lead, 2-0.

But not for nothing are the Indonesians the World No 1, they are fighting hard even as the Indians are playing more aggressively in this game.

Satwik-Chirag maintain the lead but the Minions as the Indonesians pair is called have finally caught up and go level at 7-7, logging three straight points.

The Indians are now trailing again and are 8-11 at the break.

10:18   Short rallies

The match between Satwiksairaj-Chirag and the Indonesian pair of Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo and Marcus Fernaldi has started and the Indians have been pushed on the backfoot after the teams were tied at 7-7.

The Indians trail 9-13.

Chirag seems to be having some issue with his foot and the tournament doctor comes to check on him.

The issue has been resolved and the game has restarted.

The Indonesians are not letting up, taking a 15-10 lead.

The exchanges are short and quick as points as the World No 1 pair races to a 18-11 lead.

Too many errors from the Indians and their opponents and the Indonesians win the first game 21-13.

10:03   Nagal to face Medvedev in shortly

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will shortly face World No. 1 pairing of Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo and Marcus Fernaldi.

A weather update from Tokyo: Tokyo Olympic organisers said there is currently no plan to reschedule further events due to a tropical storm heading towards the main Japanese island of Honshu.

Rowing and archery events have been moved due to the storm, which is forecast to bring rain to the capital on Tuesday.

"At this time there are no plans to change the schedule for any of the other events due to be held on Tuesday," Tokyo 2020 spokesman Masa Takaya told reporters on Monday.

The storm is currently forecast to pass to the north of Tokyo, according to the website of the Japan Metereological Agency.

09:30   Indian pair slip down

A spot in the final looks like a long shot for Indian skeet shooters Angad Vir Bajwa and Mairaj Ahmad Khan who have fallen to the 19th and 23 spots respectively on Day 2 of Qualification.

Only the top 6 qualify for the final.

Meanwhile, in men's hockey, Belgium beat Germany 3-1 in a scrappy contest, while the Netherlands defeated Ireland in the women's tournament.

09:09   Loses 4-0

India's Sutithra Mujherjee has been knocked out by Portugal's Fu Yu in the 2nd round of the women's singles match.

She lost 4-0 (3-11, 3-11, 5-11, 5-11) in just 20 minutes!

A dominant  Fu Yu gave Sutithra no time opportunity to take control as unforced errors were the order of the day for the Indian.

After losing the first three games, Sutithra Mujherjee is finally managing to gather her nerves and is forcing Fu Yu into making errors.

But the Indian has squandered an early lead and the Portuguese is once again crushing the Indian with her returns.

The Indian eventually loses the game 5-11 and the match 4-0.

08:50   Fu Yu dominant

India's TT player Sutirtha Mukherjee doesn't seem to have any answers to Fu Yu's serves and is trailing 0-2 after losing the 2nd game 3-11.
image
08:47   India's skeet shooters trailing

In the second game, Sutirtha has managed to cut down her opponent's lead but trails 3-8.

Sutirtha off to a slow start as Fu Yu has a measure of her and is galloping to a big lead in the 1st game.

She has no answers to Fu Yu's tight serves and the Portuguese has won the 1st game 3-11.

The Indians were strong, especially Atanu Das who drilled in five perfect 10s during team's easy win in the 1/8 Elimination round at the Yumenoshima Park.

The Kazakhstan troika of Denis Gankin, Ilfat Abdullin, Sanzhar Mussayev showed flashes of brilliance. They took the third set with one point margin.
