Powell finishes 3rd in first semi-final

Justin Gatlin of the US wins the first semi-final in the men's 100 metres by sprinting home in 9.82 seconds ahead of Churandy Martina of the Netherlands, who clocked 9.91.

Asafa Powell of Jamaica finished third with 9.94.

The first two finishers automatically qualify for the final of the event.
