Singh: Every case which comes to the CBI is improtant. For example we had 142 cases referred to us by the supreme court and the high courts in the country. For us each case is important. These cases are given to various officers apart from the investigation which the CBI undertakes 1300 cases every year. So far indepence of the CBI is concerned the legal framework provides for its total independence.

Thank you. Given the fact that politicians are now the biggest rascals in India, don't you think the CBI should be made autonomous? Or is that too risky? Autonomous agencies often become Frankenstein's monster. See the ISI, it has run amuck with no control. What is your opinion?

Would you have come where you have without being one of our PM's favourite officers?

I read somewhere that ONE of the reason why you were chosen to head the CBI was because you were supposed to be close the prime minister. But now it seems that he is worried at your independence and his inability to control you. How true is this? How decent is your relation with the PM?

OK,no questions pertaining to cases in Courts, so that really narrows the field, hardly and cases CBI handles would not be in Courts! So, Sir, let us talk personal:do you believe in history being a better and more valid judge than the legal judges? And how wud this influence you when push comes to shove with the (already discredited) race of Indian politicians?

Mr Singh, I have asked you several questions. I was led to believe that you are a man of rare candour. I was wrong. You are just another bureaucrat, afraid of speaking his mind.

Bedi: We have taken up the Kini murder cases within 48 hours of the fomral communication. An officer of the level of the superindent of police has been asked to investigate the case. Nobody has ever asked the CBI to go slow on any case. Investigation is a very time-comsuming process. It is not an electric button and get the light. You have to recoprd statements, check and cross-check any other evidence and then come to the final conclusion. As mentioned earlier, the agency has a set of dedicated officers whom nobody can influence.

Thankyou Joginderji,I think in India a lot of political interference is there, What is your opinion about CBI playing a subdued role today?

Mark : The only man with candour in the Indian power scene today is Mr. Indrajit Gupta, and so we shall probably never see him here! Did you read the Prnab Mukherji doctrines?

Mark: We do not have any adverserial relationship with the judiciary. We look upon the courts are our guides and friends.

He has made it very clear that there will be no interference in the work and functioning of the CBI. It is due to his support that a number of proposals have been accepted to streamline and strenghten the agency. About politicians it will against amount to commenting on them as a class which will not be fair. Some of them are the best administraitve and men of probity and integrity. Those who are found to be on the wrong side of the law, irrespective of class whether from the public life or government are dealt with in accordance with the legal framework of the country.

Mr Jog, granting that witnesses have to be questioned, records kept in triplicate and such, tell us this - investigation is a complex process, but does it also have to be a never-ending one? In other words, what case has the CBI, in recent times, brought to a conclusion?

I believe the CBI is a house divided. There are officials who are on your side, who kinow that you mean well. there are others with vested interests. Is this not true? Is it not true that Satish Sharma was tipped off on the CBI raids?

Mr Jog: You say the judiciary is a friend - but that friend seems to be spending most of his time rapping the CBI for various acts of commission and omission. Why the judicial frowns, Mr Jog? Could it be because the CBI is not doing its duty as well as is expected?

BSB: It's good you raked up the Sharma business. What action, Mr Singh, are you planning to take against the Ambanis, Dhoots and Ruias who provided the funds in the JMM bribes for votes case. I believe you are going slow in the Ambani matter because they are close to the PM, while you are taking strict action against the other two.
