Sreejesh made an incredible initial save to stop Peillat's powerful shot, before Harmanpreet and Sanjay combined to block subsequent attempts.

India holds strong at the end of the third quarter

A tense and tactical final few minutes of the third quarter saw India successfully defend their lead. A referral was called, but the decision was overturned as both teams were deemed to be within five meters of the ball.

India resorted to time-wasting tactics, keeping possession and preventing Germany from mounting a serious attack. 

The impressive link-up play between Jarmanpreet, Harmanpreet, and Manpreet was crucial in preserving India's lead as the third quarter came to a close.

India has taken an early lead thanks to a clinical finish from captain Harmanpreet Singh in the 7th minute! A deflection off a German defender has left the goalkeeper stranded, and India find themselves in dreamland.


The early goal will undoubtedly boost the Indian team's confidence as they look to secure a place in the final.

India has weathered an early German surge, holding onto their 1-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

A determined effort from Abhishek to penetrate the German defense in the closing stages of the quarter showcased India's attacking intent. However, the German defenders managed to thwart the attempt, keeping the scoreline unchanged.


With both teams eager to make their mark, the second quarter promises to be an exciting affair.

A stunning strike from Peillat in the 18th minute has brought Germany back into the game! The powerful flick left Sreejesh with no chance, and India's early lead is wiped out.


The match is now evenly poised as both teams look to regain the advantage.


Germany take lead

A costly error from India has gifted Germany another penalty corner. Peillat's clever play led to a penalty stroke after Jarmanpreet's foot blocked a goal-bound shot. Ruhr made no mistake from the spot in the 27th minute, sending Sreejesh the wrong way to give Germany a 2-1 lead.


India will need to regroup quickly and find a way to level the score before halftime.


The first half of the India-Germany semifinal has been a rollercoaster of emotions. India started brightly, taking an early lead through Harmanpreet Singh.

22:23   Vinesh faces Cuban wrestler for final spot

Indian wrestling sensation Vinesh Phogat has advanced to the semifinals of the women's 50kg freestyle wrestling event at the Paris Olympics. 

She pulled off a stunning upset by defeating reigning Olympic champion and four-time World Champion Yui Susaki of Japan in the quarterfinals. Susaki had an undefeated record going into the match.

Phogat continued her winning streak by overcoming Ukraine's Oksana Livach in the quarterfinals to secure her spot in the semis. 

She will now face off against Pan American Games gold medalist Yusneylys Guzman of Cuba for a place in the final at 10.25 PM IST.

Men's Hockey: India vs Germany

India's men's hockey team will face a stern test against Germany in the semifinals of the Paris Olympics. Buoyed by impressive victories over Australia and Great Britain, the Indian squad is aiming to reach their first Olympic final since 1980.

However, their opponent, Germany, presents a formidable challenge. The two teams last met at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, where India secured a thrilling 5-4 win to claim the bronze medal.

22:02   'I gave my all': Lakshya Sen
Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen expressed his heartbreak after losing the bronze medal match at the Paris 2024 Olympics to Malaysia's Zii Jia Lee.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Sen acknowledged the honor of representing India but admitted the pain of falling short of the podium.

The shuttler said he would introspect about what went wrong and improve.

"I am determined to reflect and introspect on what went wrong and where I need to bring a change. To this, I sincerely request space and privacy at this point in time so that I can regroup, come back in top form and win laurels for India," he said.

He also expressed thanks to the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy and his family for their support.

"I am eternally grateful to my incredible team, Vimal Sir Prakash Sir and my father for their relentless support, my family for being my strength @bai_media @media.iccsai @ppbaindia @ogq_india @redbullindia and everyone associated with my journey," he concluded.

16:34   Vinesh Phogat powers into semis

Vinesh Phogat entered her maiden Olympic semi-finals in the 50kg category, outclassing Ukraine's Oksana Livach in the quarter-finals.

The 29-year-old Vinesh defeated Livach 7-5 in a hard-fought bout to get closer to an elusive Olympic medal in her third attempt.

In the semi-finals, the Indian will take on Cuba's Yusneylis Guzman Lopez, who got the better of Gabija Dilyte of Lithuania 10-0.

This was after she caused the biggest wrestling upset in this games when she shocked four-time World champion and defending champion Yui Susaki of Japan on points to enter the quarter-finals.

Trailing 0-2 after conceding penalty points for passivity, the Indian wrestler came back brilliantly in the last five seconds to take down the top seed by clinching three points to win 3-2.

Vinesh had failed to win a medal in her two previous Olympic appearances.

16:21   Vinesh Phogat beats Ukraine's Livach 7-5

Vinesh Phogat has taken a 2-0 lead after the first period in the quarter-final bout against Oksana Livach of Ukraine.

In the second quarter, Vinesh again takes down Livach to stretch her lead to 4-0.

The Ukranian gets one point back before the Indian also adds a point to her tally.

Vinesh with a commanding lead of 5-2 with 1 minute left!

Livach goes for the left leg but can only manage a single point but Vinesh asks her coach to take the challenge.

Livach on the attack but Vinesh quick to effect the turnaround to bag points to lead 7-4.

Livach lunges into Vinesh and sends her out of the mat to get a point.

Seconds left as Vinesh manages to hold on to win 7-5 and advance to the semi-finals.

16:01   Neeraj Chopra storms into javelin final

Defending champion Neeraj Chopra has made a smashing start with a massive first throw for 89.34 to qualify for the javelin throw final.

This is Neeraj's best throw of the season and narrowly short of his personal best of 89.94.

It is the best throw of the qualification round so far. Earlier, Julian Weber of Germany threw the javelin to 87.76.

Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem also made it to the final with a mighty throw of 86.59.

The other Indian in fray, Kishore Jena, is unlikely to make the 12-man final after managing a best throw of 80.73m.

15:41   Vinesh stuns Olympic champ Susaki

Vinesh Phogat stunned Olympic Champion and four-time World Champion legend Yui Susaki of Japan 3-2 to advance to the quarter-finals of the women's 50kg wrestling event. 

In the quarter-finals, Vinesh will take on Ukraine's Oksana Livach, who beat Aktenge Keunimjaeva of Uzbekistan 10-0.

The quarter-final bout is scheduled to take place at 4.20pm IST.

The Indian men's team went down 0-3 against China in the round of 16 table tennis team event.

Harmeet Desai and Vikash Thakkar were outclassed by Long Ma and Chuqin Wang in the men's doubles before Fan Zhendong survived a tough fight against Sharath Kamal to prevail 9-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-5.

World No 1 Wang Chuqin also had to battle hard to get the better of Manav Thakkar 11-9, 11-6, 11-9 to wrap the tie 3-0.

Manav Thakkar stages a good comeback in the third game. He has built a three-point lead against the World No 1 at 6-3.

Wang reduces the margin with three points in a row to reduce the deficit to 6-7.

After the timeout, Wang has taken the lead with two points in a row but Thakkar's powerful smash levels it at 8-8.

Corner to corner, perfect placement from Wang to earn a match point before he wins the next point to wrap up the tie.

Manav Thakkar takes on World No 1 Wang Chuqin as India aim to stay alive in the TT round of 16 team event.

Wang shows his class as he quickly races to 5-l lead.

Thakkar fighting hard but Wang proving to be a tough opponent as he keeps raking up the points.

Wang misses an easy smash trying to hit it too hard as Thakkar does well to cut down the lead to 7-8.

Thakkar has bagged the next two points to take a shock 9-8 lead before Wang levels the game at 9-9.

Wang does well to claim the last two points and win the first game 11-9.

Wang finds his rhythm in the second game to easily outclass Thakkar 11-6 to take a 2-0 lead.

Zhendong runs away with the third game. He seems to be in top rhythm now as he opens up a 8-3 lead.

Kamal gets a point back but hits the next long to give the Chinese six match points.

Zhendong wraps up with the match with a powerful forehand.

Zhendong beats Kamal 9-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-5 to give China a commanding 2-0 lead. They had earlier won the doubles.

Kamal vs Zhendong 11-9, 7-11, 7-11

Kamal not holding back. He has been quite lethal with his smashes and his deft placements has the Chinese in trouble.

He has a slight lead of 5-4 but Zhendong responds back with three points in a row to swell his lead to 7-5.

A powerful backhand swat down the middle on the body which Kamal top edges and he returns the next serve into the net.

A little bit of side spin from Zhendong as Kamal hits it wide to give his opponent five game points.

Kamal saves two before Zhendong wraps up the third game 11-7.

Kamal off to a bright start winning the first two points before Zhendong strikes back with three points in a row.

Kamal's powerful shot to level it at 3-3 but Zhendong wins the next two points on his serve to build a slight lead.

Terrific rally by the two players as Kamal forces the Chinese into the defensive with some well placed smashes and then clinches the point with a well placed smash on the left.

Zhendong keeps chipping away at the points to stretch the lead to 8-4.

Kamal not giving up as he fights back with two successive points to reduce the lead to 6-9.

He enjoys some luck as the ball clips the net with Zhendong unable to get it back but he still leads 9-7.

After the timeout Zhendong wraps up the second game 11-7 with a powerful backhand smash.

14:07   Kamal wins first game 11-9 vs Zhendong

The second match of the men's team event is a single match between veteran Sharath Kamal and China's Fan Zhendong.

Zhendong is World No 2 in singles with team-mate Wang Chuqin the No 1 ranked player.

Kamal off to an encouraging start, staying on the heels of Zhendong, who leads 3-2.

He hits long but follows it with a cracking smash and bags the next point to level scores at 4-4.

Another backhand smash as Kamal leads 5-4 but errs on the next two points as the Chinese grabs the lead.

Good service from Kamal with lot of underspin as Zhendong's slice goes long with scores level at 6-6.

Kamal fighting fire with fire as he responds with a powerful service to level at 7-7 before he gets the next point with a heavy spin serve.

Two points in a row for Zhendong, who leads 9-8 before Kamal does the same to take the lead 9-8.

Kamal wins the first game 11-9.

13:57   China beat India 3-0 in TT doubles

The Indians have improved considerably in the third game. They have done well to stay close to the Chinese, who are leading 6-5.

They won just five points in the first two games and they already have as many points in this game alone.

But the Chinese breakaway with four points in a row to be in control on 10-5 with five match points.

Desai hits long as China comfortably clinch the first match.

Long and Chuqin thrash Desai and Thakkar  3-0 (11-2, 11-3, 11-7) in a one-side match.

China's duo of Ma Long and Wang Chuqin have dominated the opening game as they clinched it 11-2.

The Indians Desai and Thakkar hardly got a look-in as the Chinese looked in great form in the opening game.

The second game followed the same pattern. Long and Chuqin proved to be unstoppable as they wrapped up the game 11-3.

The men's table tennis players kick off the action for India as they play their round of 16 match against China.

In the opening match, Harmeet Desai and Vikash Thakkar will take on Long Ma and Chuqin Wang in the men's doubles.
