Tokyo Olympics organisers on Thursday reported 24 new Games-related COVID-19 cases, including three athletes.

The latest daily cases have brought the total Games-linked number since July 1 to 193.

Also, two Games-related people have been hospitalised but neither of the cases are serious, Tokyo Olympic organisers said on Thursday, declining to provide further details citing privacy concerns.

The cases are the first known COVID-19 hospitalisations at the pandemic-hit Games, which is in its sixth day of competition and runs till August 8.

Athletes and other attendees have flooded into Tokyo from around the world and are subject to a testing regime to identity and isolate positive cases. The capital city is in a state of emergency with coronavirus infections at a record high.
