In latest updates from the pools at the Tokyo Olympics, Alaskan teenager Lydia Jacoby upstaged her 2016 Olympic champion team mate Lily King to win a surprise gold medal in the women's 100m breaststroke on Tuesday.

The 17-year-old pipped Tatjana Schoenmaker to gold, touching in a time of 1:04.95 with the South African 0.27 behind and King in the bronze medal position in 1:05.54.

Jacoby accelerated over the final 25 metres to push ahead of her two rivals, who had been expected to battle it out for gold.

King, 24, currently holds the world record for the event with a time of 1:04.13.

It is crunch time for India this morning at the Olympics --  India's badminton pair of Satwiksai Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty face the World No 18 British duo of Ben Lane and Sean Vendy to keep themselves alive at the Games and advance to the knockouts.

Table tennis veteran Sharath Kamal faces Chinese great Ma Long in his third round tie.

Exciting minutes ahead.

Earlier, the Indian men's hockey team routed Spain 3-0 to register their 2nd win in three games.

India have now climbed to second spot in Pool A with six points from three matches and a goal difference of -2.  The top four teams go through to the quarters.
