The Karachi police have recovered a body which they believe is that of Wall Street Journal correspondent Daniel Pearl, who was murdered by Islamic terrorists in January.
The headless torso with the head lying beside it was recovered from a grave alongside a highway at Gadap, 30 km from Karachi. Three suspects arrested in the case provided clues which led to the discovery, the Dawn newspaper reported on Friday.
Pakistan defence spokesman Rashid Qureshi reportedly said the police are 'quite sure' it is Pearl's body. Forensic experts were taken to the site where the police recovered the body on Thursday night. A police convoy accompanied the forensic team to the site.
The body was not removed from the site in order to preserve the evidence, one source said. One of the forensic specialists is a DNA expert.
