Guhaghar and Anjanvel are easily accessible by road. The turnoff for Guhaghar on the NH 17, the Bombay-Goa national highway, is just before the main town of Chiplun, at the base of the hill on which the Taj Riverview Gateway Hotel is situated.

Mr and Mrs Pethe's abode can be located about a kilometre south from the main market. They welcome lodgers, from time to time. So if you don't mind sleeping on the floor or sharing a bath and toilet, you know where to go. If you can't locate the Pedhe's house on your own, ask around and you will be shown it. In a small town everyone seems to know everyone else.

Just south of Guhaghar, about 25 km away we discovered another place worth visiting -- the sea side village of Velneshwar. Velneshwar was not exactly virgin territory and you are likely to find some tourists there. However, all said and done since you have the trouble to come all the way to Guhaghar, its worth a visit. Velneshwar has some small shops and eateries catering to basic needs.

Guhaghar is an ideal place to spend some time if you are staying at the Taj at Chiplun on your way to Goa. Or it is an ideal camping spot. A small tent with adequate rations to last for a day or two, pitched by the side of the fort on the plateau above Anjanvel is a great alternative to a beach resort. Believe me a walk to the lighthouse early in the morning all along the plateau's edge is a great experience -- unequaled opportunities for photography. And perhaps for painting and sketching
