Some 660 species of orchids grow in Sikkim. Heavy rains and high altitude make the state a botanist's fantasy.

Flora runs to woods of magnolia, fir, pine, bamboo, oak, beech, tree ferns, patches of strawberry, raspberry, poppies, rhubarb and groves of apples and oranges.
