On an ordinary day the maze of narrow lanes around Jama Masjid, India’s largest mosque, in Old Delhi seethe with confusion. Noise. Spicy aromas. Traffic jams. Throngs of people. Utter chaos. And during the holy month of Ramzan, this Muslim neighbourhood dons a new avatar…

An avatar that is just an exaggeration of its old self. More stalls and shops sprout up overnight. There’s more noise. More smells. More people... And good food. Up to 25,000 devout Muslims can offer their maghrib or post sunset prayers at this red and white mosque before wandering off into the nearby bazaars to find a meal to break their day’s fast.
