Bangalore is a great place to shop. The outlets are easily accessible, unlike other cities like Bombay, where you have to trek miles to reach places. Two main shopping avenues are the attraction and if you have checked them out you have covered all what the city has to offer. Walk down the first, Commercial street, and it is all there -- from the foreign outlets like Levis, Pierre Cardin to the casual wear teenager trendy stores like Wearhouse and Weekender and formal menswear like Allen Solly, Louis Phillipe and Van Heusen, carpets and even a toilet fittings outlets.
Down Brigade Street the other major shopping avenue in the upmarket cantonment area, are the more expensive, fancy department stores, the sari shops and the real bargains for T-shirts and waistcoats. M G Road boast a good range of shops too.

Also check out the Majestic area, close to the city railway terminus. Though clogged with traffic, this neighbourhood is popular with local residents because the wares are considerably cheaper.

The discriminating shopper, when in Bangalore, concentrates on trendy fashion and on silks, for which the city is famed.

What is frustrating for shoppers will be the Bangalorean habit of shutting shop for siesta time. Between 13.00 and 16.00 the shops pull down their shutters and go home to snooze. But the trend's a slowly changing and the new shops down shutters and eyelids for fewer hours
