Moya to play in Chennai Open

November 13, 2008 23:22 IST

Spain's tennis ace and world number 42 Carlos Moya [ Images ] has confirmed his participation for the 14th edition of the Chennai Open, scheduled in January.

It will be Moya's seventh appearance in the last eight years and the two-time Chennai Open winner joined star players like Nikolay Davydenko [ Images ], Mike and Bob Bryan, Mahesh Bhupathi [ Images ]/Mark Knowles [ Images ] and Leander Paes [ Images ]/Luaks Dlouhy to have already confirmed their participation.

The Spaniard won the Chennai Open in 2004 and 2005.

Moya, winner of 20 ATP singles titles, missed a hat-trick in 2006 when he was defeated by Ivan Ljubucic in the final.

In 2007, he was well on-course to another final but a brilliant performance by Austrian Stefan Koubek, the eventual runner-up, stopped him mid-way.

Last year, he lost his semi-final match to then World No 2 Rafael Nadal [ Images ].

"This would be my seventh visit in the last eight years. I always look forward to coming to Chennai. I love the courts and the crowd always supports me. I just want to come here and give my best and enjoy being part of this popular tournament," Moya said.
