Gill's meeting illegal, says Kalmadi

Indian Olympic Association President Suresh Kalmadi on Tuesday denounced former Indian Hockey Federation chief KPS Gill's move to convene an executive committee meeting of the disbanded body, calling it illegal.

Reacting to the news that Gill has convened a meeting on Friday, Kalmadi said the move defied logic.

"I don't understand how he calls the meeting. Indian Hockey Federation has been dissolved and KPS Gill is no more the IHF President. The body doesn't exist anymore and it's definitely not legal (to call executive body meeting)," Kalmadi told PTI.

"There is no recognition from the Indian Olympic Association, the International Hockey Federation and the government as well," he added.

Asked about whether it would affect the way of working of the new ad hoc committee, Kalmadi rubbished such possibility saying, "no, not at all."

Earlier, one of the former executive committee members of IHF confirmed Gill's decision to convene the meeting on Friday.

"I have heard that a meeting will be held at Gill's residence on May 16. But I have not received any formal communication regarding the parley yet," he said on condition of anonymity.

Former Olympian Aslam Sher Khan, who heads the ad hoc selection committee, said it was a "laughable" effort by Gill.

"He can't reconcile to the fact that he has been sacked. This development confirms the reason behind the poor condition of Indian hockey," he said.

"The IOA and the government have taken the decision to sack him as there was no other way out after the sting operation. This meeting will let us know who are still with the former IHF chief," Khan added.

Gill's 15-year-tenure came to an end when IOA suspended the IHF on April 28 and replaced it with an ad hoc committee, headed by Kalmadi.

An ad hoc selection committee, headed by Aslam Sher Khan, was also put in place.
