Manpreet Singh punched Kyrgyzstan's Bekzod Turgunov to submission in a 91kg quarter-final bout to join three other Indians in the semi-finals of the Asian Boxing Championships in Bangkok on Wednesday.

Manpreet made life difficult for his opponent, who got injured in the third round and the referee declared the Indian winner after stopping the contest.

Manpreet will take on Jasur Matchanov of Uzbekistan in the semi-finals on February 1.

Dilbag Singh, however, could not make it a double treat for India, as he lost his quarter-final bout to Korean Jung-Joo Kim 13-25 and bowed out of the tournament, which is an Olympic qualifying event.

"He put up a very good fight but was unfortunate to lose out. His punches did not land at the right areas; it was not his day," national coach G S Sandhu said.

Besides Manpreet, three Indians are in the semi-finals. They are Amandeep Singh (48kg), Akhil Kumar (54kg) and Dinesh Kumar (81kg).

All of them have their semi-final bouts on February 1 after a rest day on Thursday. Victory in their respective bouts will see them earn a berth at the Beijing Olympics.

Akhil is up against Ryom Chol Jin of the People's Republic of Korea, Amandeep has a tough fight against Uzbekistan's Sultonov Rafijon while Dinesh will square off against the winner of the quarter-final bout between Iran's Mehdi Ghorbani and Chinese Xiaoping Zhang.

The finalists of the 48kg to 81kg and the winner of 91kg will qualify for the Olympics.
