European Tour regular Shiv Kapur on Wednesday joined Arjun Atwal and said he was not impressed by the new bunkers added to the Delhi Golf Club layout for the Indian Masters.
Talking about the course which has received a few facelifts for the $ 2.5 million European Tour event, Shiv made no bones of his disliking for some of the changes.
"I'm not really excited about some of the bunkers that have been put in. I think the main character and the main hazard of the course is its bushes. And if you put bunkers like that, I think you take the driver and three-wood out of a lot of the holes, especially the sixth where you have a couple of bunkers added that was simply unnecessary," said the youngster about his home course.
"In the eighth hole again, the bunker takes the driver out of play. If I were to set up the golf course, I would shave the rough completely and have it hard and fast so that the ball runs into the bushes and take out these bunkers to let people have a rip with their driver," he said.
Earlier, Atwal too criticised adding the bunkers in his press conference on Tuesday.
About the prospect of the Indian contingent, Shiv said he would put his money on Jyoti Randhawa, for his sensational record at the DGC, while Jeev Milkha Singh too looked good.
"We all have seen how Jyoti plays on this course. If I were a betting man, I would have put my money on him. Obviously, he has got the best record here. But Jeev too has found some form.
"I really would not be surprised if there is an Indian winner. A lot of Indian players are playing well and in true good form," he said.
Shiv also felt this event handed him an gilt-edge opportunity to outplay world number four Ernie Els.
"As I have said earlier, if I like my chances to beat Ernie Els, it's probably here on my home course and not anywhere else. So if I've got a chance of beating the best players in the world, I'd like to do on a course I've played a thousand times," he said.
