Shiv Kapur seemed destined for a top five finish before a hat-trick of bogeys on a treacherous back stretch dashed his hopes even though his final round of three-over 74 was enough for a creditable tied eighth finish in the USD four million Barclays Singapore Open on Sunday.

The European Tour regular ended with a four-day total of two-over 286 to join Mark Brown and Ken Webber at the eighth place, 10 shots behind Angel Cabrera (72) who managed to stave off Vijay Singh's late charge by a wafer-thin one shot after the former world number one signed off with a sizzling four-under 67 to turn the heat on the Argentine.

Defending champion Adam Scott (71) finished third at three-under 281.

Feeling the heat after Vijay Singh set up a thrilling duel with a new course record of 67, the big-hitting Cabrera birdied the last hole on a sun-baked Serapong Course at Sentosa Golf Club to add to his US Open success, closing out Asia's richest National Open and pocket USD 634,000.

Shiv Kapur, who grew better with every round till he hit the course today, needed one more good show to finish higher the leader-board but instead, he ended up returning his worst card of the week.

The early indication came in the very first hole where the Indian dropped his first shot before he birdied the fourth to take the turn at level-par.

On resumption, Kapur parred the first two holes before running into a morass, dropping three bogeys on the trot.

His exploits, however, were enough to make him richer by USD 89,066.
