South Africa's Hendrik Buhrmann equalled the course record with a seven-under 65 to return to a three-way tie for the lead after round three of the Asian Tour Aamby Valley event on Saturday.

The opening day leader was on 10 under with India's overnight leader Ashok Kumar and Britain's Simon Hurd at the picturesque course in Lonavala near Mumbai.

Buhrmann, 42, made two eagles on the par-five third and 14th and added four birdies, missing out on a new course mark only after he bogeyed the par-four 16th for the third day in a row.

Buhrmann, eyeing his maiden victory in Asia after coming second four times, equalled the course mark set by India's Shiv Kapur last year.

"This is one of my best rounds this year which I enjoyed very much," he said. "I got the par fives today which was the key."

"I'm so used to throwing it away. I've finished second so many times I'm not going to worry about it," he added.

Kumar, 24, gave up his four-stroke advantage after dropping five shots, which included a double bogey, to card 73.

"My putting wasn't working," he said, after needing as many as 37 putts. "It was too many especially when you're playing at this level."

Hurd carded 69, his third sub-par round. He almost took sole lead but found the rough off the tee to bogey his last hole.

South African Simon Griffiths returned 67 to be one stroke behind with Australian Kane Webber (66) two shots behind. His compatriot Terry Pilkadaris (67) was a further shot away in sixth at six-under 210.
