Anju Bobby George failed to make it to women's long jump final after falling short of the qualifying mark at the IAAF World Indoor Athletics Championships in Moscow on Saturday.

The Indian ace's best jump was 6.34 metres, which was 20 centimetres below the cut-off mark (6.55m) and also outside the best eight from the Group A and B.

The lanky Kerala athlete could have made it to the final had she repeated her Federation Cup performance of the last week, when she cleared 6.47 metres, which was better than Cuban Savigne Yargelis' 6.46 metres effort, the eighth best to snatch a berth among the finalists.

Anju leaped 6.16m in her first attempt and subsequently improved but only to slip to 6.33m in the third chance.

She now proceeds to Melbourne for the Commonwealth Games, where she will have to pull her socks to hope for laurels.

Kotova Tatyana of Russia and Gomes of Naide of Portugal were the top finishers in the quaifiers with 6.73m as the best performance.

Others who made to the final were Madison Tianna of the United States (6.60m), Udmurtova Oksana of Russia (6.58m), Pilatou Stiliani of Greece (6.55m), Montaner Concepcion of Spain (6.55m) and Radevica Ineta of Latvia (6.51m).
