Samresh Jung squandered the opportunity to grab an Olympic quota place from the World Cups, finishing a distant 43rd in the fourth and last ISSF event for rifle and pistol shooters this year.

Jung, who shot into the limelight while bagging five gold medals at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games, disappointed with a tally of 574 (97, 95, 95, 96, 95, 96) in the 10m pistol event at Milan, Italy on Thursday.

The CRPF Inspector will now get another chance to book an Olympic berth at the World Shooting Championships at Zagreb, Croatia, next month.

India's chief coach Sunny Thomas admitted that the Milan outing proved a disappointing one for the Indians, especially Jung, but hoped that they would bounce back in the World Championships.

"Jung will come back into form soon. You can't expect one to be in peak form always. He has problems with operating the trigger of his pistol and that's affecting his performance," Thomas said from Milan.

Thomas said the shooters were not only tired but also in dire need of "proper training" after a hectic six months.

"Score-wise Milan has not been not so good so far. Now we need proper training with proper ammunition before the World Championships," he said.

"We have our World Championships camps scheduled in Delhi, where electronic targets are available, but we have requested SAI in writing to shift them to Bangalore as it will not be possible in Delhi due to rains at that time," he said.
