A double strike by Jose Ramirez Baretto's enabled Mahindra United beat Sporting Clube de Goa 2-1 in extra-time and win the Federation Cup football title at the Nehru stadium, in Margao, Goa, on Sunday night.

The Brazilian striker, who also won the Alchemist 'Golden Boot' award for emerging the top scorer of the tournament with six goals, gave the Mumbai champions the lead in the 36th minute.

However, Sporting found the equaliser in the 56th minute through a penalty conversion by Dudu Omagbemi.

Both the teams played their hearts out as they searched for the winning goal but were unable to break the deadlock and the final went into extra-time.

With just a minute to go for the long whistle, Baretto made the best of a cross from Steven Dias to score the match-winner.

Mahindra United received Rs 12 lakh for their triumph, while Sporting Clube got Rs 700,000.

Mahindra goalkeeper Sandip Nandy was adjudged the man of the match.

For emerging the top scorer, Baretto was richer by Rs 100,00.

Shanmuham Venkatesh was named the player of the tournament and took home the Cristiano Junior trophy and the cash prize of Rs 100,000.

Mahindra United won the Fair Play award and a prize of Rs 50,000.
