Tarundeep misses bronze

India's Tarundeep Rai missed the bronze medal by a whisker when he lost the battle for third place in the men's recurve on the penultimate day of the 43rd World target outdoor archery championship in Madrid, Spain, on Saturday.

Rai lost to Choi Won Jong of Korea 112-106 on a day when all the individual finals were held.

Another Korean, Chung Jae Hun claimed the gold, defeating Ryuichi Moriya of Japan 102-101.

No other Indians could make it to individual medal contention. Saturday's other events were the women's recurve, men's compound and women's compound.

In the team event, India will clash with Korea for the men's recurve gold medal and the women will challenge Russian Federation for the recurve bronze medal, on Sunday.

Results:

Men's recurve for gold and silver medals: Chung Jae Hun (Kor) bt Ryuichi Moriya (Japan) 102-101.
For bronze medal: Choi Won Jong (Kor) bt Tarundeep Rai (India) 112-106.

Women's recurve gold and silver: Lee Sung Jin (Kor) bt Lee Tuk Young (Kor) 111-109.
For bronze medal: Park Sung Hyun (Kor) bt Natalia Valeeva (Italy) 113-104.

Men's compound gold and silver: Morgon Lundin (Sweden) bt Morten Boe (Norway) 117*-117 (tie-break).
For bronze medal: Dejan Sitar (Slovania) bt Armando de la Garza (Mexico) 117-112.

Women's compound gold and silver: Sofya Goncharova (Russia) bt Armida Bastos (Mexico) 112-109.
For bronze: Svetlana Kondrashenko (Rus) bt Valerie Fabre (France) 113-109.
