Former world number one Serena Williams turned in a stunning performance on Tuesday as she crushed second seed Amelie Mauresmo 6-2 6-2 to reach the last four of the Australian Open.
In searing heat, the seventh seed dominated Mauresmo with a confident display, setting up a mouthwatering semi-final against Russian fourth seed Maria Sharapova, who beat the American in last year's Wimbledon final.
Williams, without a Grand Slam title since her victory at Melbourne Park in 2003, played well within herself, cutting down on her unforced errors and never allowing the Frenchwoman a chance to get on top.
Mauresmo, still looking for her first Grand Slam, appeared listless as Williams broke her four times on her way to a ninth victory in 10 career meetings, clinching victory with her fifth ace.
