The duo lost to Tommy Haas of Germany and Jurgen Melzer of Austria 4-6, 6-7(4/7) after a keenly-fought contest that lasted an hour and 20 minutes.
Earlier this month, the duo had crashed out in the second round of the 2.2-million-dollar ATP tennis tournament in Montreal, Canada.
Mahesh Bhupathi and his Czech Republic partner Martin Damm, seeded second, will take on Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram of Israel in the first round of the same event.
