David Coulthard will test for the Red Bull Racing Formula One team in Jerez, Spain, this week.
A statement issued on Wednesday said: "Red Bull Racing confirmed today that as part of the continued winter test programme, David Coulthard will join the team in Jerez this week driving the 2004 car, the R5."
Coulthard said: "I am pleased to have the opportunity to join the team this week and am really looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of an F1 car."
The 33-year-old Scot has been replaced at McLaren by Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya and has yet to find a new employer.
Red Bull, the former Jaguar team bought from Ford by Austrian energy drink billionaire Dietrich Mateschitz last month, represent his best chance of staying in the sport after a decade with Williams and McLaren.
Coulthard has won 13 Grands Prix, more than any other active driver other than world champion Michael Schumacher.
