Churchill Brothers lifted the Governor's Cup title for the second successive time, defeating Haywards Sporting 2000 5-2 via the tie-breaker at the Nehru stadium in Margao, Goa, on Sunday.

Churchill, who looked unimpressive in the first-half took the lead in the 55th minute following a move initiated by Yakubu Yakubu, who relayed the ball to Ratan Singh on the left. The latter sent a cross to Nitin Pradhan, who nodded into the net.

Haywards, who had more of the ball possession in the barren first-half, restored parity later through a penalty by Dudu Omagbemi.

Churchill suffered a double blow when their defender Osman Hussein, who gave little space to opposing striker Omagbemi was given marching orders by the referee Gokuldas after he brought down Omagbemi inside the box when he was about to score.

Both the teams were not able to break the deadlock and missed several scoring chances, taking the match into the tie-breaker.

Churchill's Harinder Singh, Santa Singh, Ratan Singh and Yusif Yakuboo were on target in the tie-breaker while only Akshay Das was able to score for the losers.

Bibiano Fernandes and Kamal Suliman's shots were saved by keeper Mark Mascarenhas.

Churchill Bros players became richer by Rs 75,000 while the Haywards got Rs 50,000.
