Elaborate security arrangements are being made for the inaugural Afro-Asian Games, commencing at Hyderabad from October 24.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner R P Singh told reporters on Saturday that in addition to 1400 police personnel drawn from various districts, over 5,000 city policemen would be deployed at various places of stay and Games venues.

To facilitate foreign athletes and dignitaries, four special immigration counters have been set up at the airport, he said.

A limit of 30 minutes has been set to clear any sportsperson or official at the airport. Six interpreters in Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Arabic, French and Russians languages have also been arranged to facilitate interaction, Singh said, adding, 24 specially trained immigration personnel would be on the job round the clock.

To provide foolproof security for athletes at places of stay, he said, strict anti-sabotage measures along with access control system would be in place round the clock and sniffer dogs would also be utilised to sanitise the areas.
