Indian Olympic Association secretary general Randhir Singh was on Saturday unanimously re-elected Asian region vice-president of the Commonwealth Games Federation for another four-year term.

After his re-election at a meeting of the CGF at Montego Bay, Jamaica, an elated Singh said, "The federation always recognises and appreciates the good work being done. India is respected by the members of the federation and its economic growth has been the key to such recognition."

On India's successful bid to host the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, he said, "The total solidarity exhibited by the regional delegates from Asia and Africa motivated the members of other regions like the Caribbeans, Oceania and America, besides England."

Singh, who is also secretary general of the Olympic Council of Asia and is popularly known as 'Raja' by sports administrators worldwide, said the successful hosting of the Afro-Asian Games in Hyderabad was the key to India winning the right to host the Commonwealth Games.

Thanking the members of the CGF for supporting India's bid, Singh said the New Delhi Games would be "a massive success since we have the total support of the Government of India and also enough time to create a benchmark in hosting the Games successfully".
