Jain, Saleem win national bowling

Delhi's Samir Jain and Madras's Sabeena Saleem reigned supreme in the men's and women's sections respectively in the ColorPlus National bowling championships 2001 which concluded on Sunday.

Jain and Saleem will represent India at the AMF World Cup 2001, to be held at Pattaya, Thailand, from November 4 to 11.

Jain scored an aggregate of 1667 points to emerge triumphant. He was followed by Mohan Lal, who tallied 1551 points.

The final round was a close affair. Jain made a start with a score of 165 in the first game while Lal started with a high score of 213 points. In the next game, however, it was Jain who held the edge as he scored 201 while Lal could manage only 158, his lowest score in the final.

Jain held his nerve thereafter to come out trumps.

In the women's section, Saleem scored 856 points to emerge ahead of Anuradha Sarda, who tallied 828 points. Anjana Goneka from Bombay, with a score of 823 points, was third.

Over 200 women bowling enthusiasts from across the country participated in the championship and 16 qualifiers were invited to participate in the finals.

Jain and Saleem received a trophy and prize-monmey of Rs.1,00,000 and 15,000 respectively.
