India colts too good

Irfan Pathan grabbed a hat-trick as India skittled out minnows Thailand for a paltry 26 in 15.4 overs to score a thumping 246-run victory in their opening match of the Asian Cricket Council under-15 tournament, which commenced in Kuala Lumpur on Friday.

Pathan claimed the last three Thai wickets to fall, conceding only two runs, to sew up India's victory in the inaugural edition of the event.

The other main wicket-takers were T Saha and M Talukdar, who picked up two apiece while giving away 8 and 2 runs respectively.

Earlier, put in to bat India rattled up a 40-over total of 272 for 9, with the help of half centuries from P Das and A Rayudu.

India take on Bangladesh tomorrow in their next round-robin clash.

India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Thailand and Hong Kong are involved in the round-robin preliminary phase to decide the two finalists for the July 9 summit clash.

Scores: India 272 for 9 (P Das 63, A Rayudu 64, Abhinav Kumar 33, S Dixit 20) beat Thailand 26 all out in 15.4 overs (T Saha 2 for 8, M Talukdar 2 for 3, Irfan Pathan 3 for 2).
