Laver's condition still serious

Tennis legend Rod Laver's condition remains, if not criticial, at least serious two days after a stroke suffered while recording a television interview.

The "Rocket", due to turn 60 on August 9, thus remains in the ICU at UCLA Medical Center, and indications are that he will remain under close observation for a week more, at the least.

Though doctors say Laver is not paralysed, the stroke has weakened the erstwhile two-time Grand Slam winner on the right side, causing problems while speaking, and while moving his right arm and leg.

Complete recovery is, as per the prognoscis, several months of intensive therapy away.
