The Indian ace and Russian partner Vera Dushevina lost to 11th seeds Alisa Kleybanova and Ekaterina Makarova.

Already out of the singles, the Indao-Russian pair lost 7-6(6), 2-6, 6-7(3) in a first round match.

Sania had lost to Russian 20th seed Anastasia Pavlyucjenkova in the women's singles second round.

Somdev lost in the men's singles and Leander Paes [ Images ] suffered a shock first round defeat in the men's doubles.

Mahesh Bhupathi [ Images ] and Rohan Bopanna [ Images ] have kept the Indian challenge alive by progressing to the second round of the men's doubles with their respective partners.
