Raonic puts Somdev out of Tashkent Challenger

Canada's Milos Raonic pounded 17 aces to end the winning run of second seeded and Commonwealth gold medallist Somdev Devvarman and create the biggest upset of the day in the $1,25,000 Tashkent Challenger, on Thursday.

The Canadian joined fourth seeded Jamaican Dustin Brown, fifth seed Karol Beck of Slovakia and unseeded Belarusian Uladmir Ignatik in the last eight stage of the ATP Challenger series event being played at the Olympic tennis stadium.

The 155-ranked Raonic beat the 95th ranked Somdev 6-4, 7-6(3) in an hour and 18 minutes.

Brown scored a 6-4, 6-4 win over Canadian qualifier Vasek Pospisil .

In the longest matches of the day, lasting two hrs 19 minutes each, fifth seed Karol Beck of Slovakia went through some anxious moments before overcoming 329th ranked Australian qualifier Rameez Junaid 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, while the 198th ranked Uladzimir Ignatik scraped past 173rd Franco Skugor of Croatia 7-6(5), 3-6, 7-6(4) .
