India's Monica Devi win's bronze in 75 kg category in the weightlifting event of the Commonwealth Games on Saturday.
India bt SA 3-1, out of medal contention
India beat South Africa 3-1 in their final Pool A women's hockey match but it was not enough to guarantee the home team a place in the semi-finals as the reigning silver medalist crashed out on goal difference.
Deepika Thakur (11th, 21st minute) and captain Surinder Kaur (35th) scored for India while Pietie Coetzee (45th) was the lone goal-getter for South Africa.
South Africa joined Australia in the last four stage from Pool A on better goal difference.
India will now play the third place holder from Pool B for the fifth-sixth position.
Lee-Hesh clinch bronze
Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi won bronze in the men's doubles tennis event beating compatriots Rohan Bopanna and Somdev Devvarman 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).
Earlier, another gold medal slipped out of India's grasp as Sania Mirza lost to Australian Anastasia Rodionova 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 in the women's tennis final at the Commonwealth Games on Saturday.
Yesterday India lost two sure-shot medals after Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi lost the men's doubles event and later Sania and Paes went down in the mixed doubles event.
Wrestlers Yadav, Dutt swell India's gold tally
Narsingh Yadav and Yogeshwar Dutt won their wrestling bouts to help swell India's gold medal tally.
Yogeshwar Dutt outclassed Canada's James Mancini to win the gold medal in the men's freestyle 60kg wrestling event.
Soon after, Yadav thwarted stiff competition from South Africa's Richard Addinall to register a hardfought 4-0 victory in the men's freestyle 74kg wrestling event.
Suranjoy, Amandeep assured of medals
Asian champion Suranjoy Singh (52kg) and Amandeep Singh (49kg) assured India of at least two medals in the boxing competition at the Commonwealth Games by advancing to the semi-finals with contrasting victories.
Amandeep and Suranjoy defeated Muhammad Fuad and Mohammad Subrie -- both from Malaysia -- respectively to assure themselves of their maiden medals in the Games.
While Amandeep won 7-1, Suranjoy beat Surie 9-2.
Gagan Narang bags fourth gold
Gagan Narang continued to rule at the Dr Karni Singh shooting range. The ace Indian marksman bagged his fourth gold medal in as many events.
Narang posted a personal best in the 50 metres Rifles 3 positions as India earned its 12th gold in shooting, taking their overall tally to 22 gold.
Earlier, Vijay Kumar completed a golden hat-trick, winning the gold medal in men's 25-metre centre fire pistol pairs event.
Aus scrape past Pak in men's hockey
World champions Australia were made to sweat before beating Pakistan 1-0 and sealing a place in the semi-finals of the men's hockey tournament.
Pakistan displayed a much-improved performance in the match but failed to avenge their 1-2 World Cup loss to Australia because of poor finishing and brilliant goalkeeping by Nathan Burgers under the Australian goal.
Australia got what turned out to be the match-winner in the 33rd minute when Chris Ciriello converted their second penalty-corner.
With an all-win record in the competition, the defending champions next take on Malaysia in an inconsequential last pool match on Sunday.
Pakistan, on the other hand, take on arch-rivals India in a must-win match. Both teams are eyeing an outright victory that will give them a place in the last four stage.
Vijay Kumar completes golden hat-trick
Ace marksman Vijay Kumar completed a golden hat-trick on Saturday after winning the gold medal in men's 25-metre centre fire pistol pairs event.
Vijay (586) and Harpreet Singh (573) registered a total of 1159 to place first in the event, ahead of New Zealand duo Greg Yelavich and Alan Earlie, who scored 1140.
Singapore's Bin Gai and Lip Meng Poh had to settle for bronze after scoring 1139.
This is Vijay's third gold medal at the Delhi Games and it also boosted India's gold medals tally to 21.
Before this, Vijay clinched gold in the singles 25m rapid fire pistol with a new Games record and the 25m centre fire pistol pairs.
Earlier, Seema Shiroor and Kavita Yadav won the bronze in 10m air rifle pairs women's event.
Harminder wins 20km walk bronze
India's Harminder Singh clinched a surprise bronze medal in the men's 20km walk, clocking a personal best of 1:23:28 second on Saturday.
The 26-year-old Harminder finished a minute and 10 seconds behind silver medallist Luke Adams of Australia.
Another Australian, Jared Tallent, clinched the gold medal, after trailing Adams till the last two kilometers, in a new Games record of 1:22:18s.
However, there was disappointment for India in the women's 20km walk in which Rani Yadav was the best-placed at sixth after clocking 1:42:54s.
Another, Indian Sandhya Jolly, finished eighth with a timing of 1:51:44s, while Deepmala Devi failed to even finish and ended up bottom of the heap.
England's Jo Jackson grabbed the gold medal in the event, clocking 1:34:22s, while Australia Claire Tallent, wife of men's gold winner Jared, settled for the silver with a timing of 1:36:55s.
The bronze went to Kenya's Wanjiru Grace, who finished in 1:37:49s.
Men's TT team wins bronze
The Indian men's table tennis team won the bronze medal after beating Nigeria 3-0 at the Yamuna Sports Complex.
Meanwhile, Narsingh Pancham Yadav entered the final of the men's
Freestyle 74 kg wrestling competition after beating Canada's Evan MacDonald.
Yogeshwar Dutt also entered the final in 60 kg freestyle wrestling after beating England's Sasha Madyarchyk.
