SSP Chowrasia tied third at BMW PGA C'ship

May 21, 2010 13:50 IST

Indian golfer SSP Chowrasia showed glimpse of vintage form and fired a blazing four-under 67 to lie tied third after the opening round of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

Chowrasia, who has been struggling on the European Tour, rode on his flawless front nine to lie two shots off lead.

However, compatriots Jyoti Randhawa and Shiv Kapur risk missing the cut, which has been decided at one-over, after going three-over 73 and eight-over 79 respectively for the tied 102nd and tied 141st places.

Chowrasia brought home a blemish-free front nine studded with birdies on the third, fourth, fifth and eighth holes to make the turn at four-under.

A bogey on the 11th on his back nine had pulled him back a bit but Chowrasia ensured he finished the day on a high with a birdie on the 17th hole.

Radhawa's card included two birdies on the second and fourth hole against five bogeys on the first, third, sixth, eighth and 15th holes.

However, Kapur had the most disappointing day in the greens as he dropped as many as four bogeys, three doubles bogeys against a couple of birdies to languish at the bottom.

At the top, Englishman Danny Willett blasted six-under 65 to grab the lead while one stroke behind is Richard Green of Australia.
