Five Indians in Asian Youth Boxing finals

On a mixed day for Indian boxers, five of the nine in action advanced to the finals of the Asian Youth Championships in Tehran, Iran.

In the light fly-weight (48kg) division, Devendro Singh Laishram blanked Engelbert Moralye of Philippines 5-0.

Among other winners, Vikash Krishan (60kg) also out-punched Fei Heng of China 9-0, while Sumit Sangwan defeated (75kg) Sakkarih Choojit of Thailand 2-0.

In the light-heavy weight (81kg), Navin Kumar scored a thrilling win over Begaliev Sardorbek of Uzbekistan.

Both the boxers were tied at 2-2 after the three rounds and the Indian was declared winner on countback.

In the feather-weight (57kg), Venkat Giddi Nagarjun beat Hursltan Pazylov of Kyrgyzstan 8-1.

However, it was disappointment for four others who settled for bronze medals. Srinivas Surbetti (51kg) lost 0-3 to Jinyong Jiang of China, while Harpal Singh (64kg) was beaten 1-10 by Meirim Hursultanov of Kazakhstan.

Manoj Kumar (91kg) suffered a head injury against Askar Kupensheyev of Kazakhstan forcing the referee to stop the contest in the second round.

In the +91kg category, Rajat lost 3-13 to Farhad of Iran.
