India did not have any game plan against Aus: Harcharan

India's lack of planning or strategy was evident in the team's 2-5 drubbing against Australia, according to former player Harcharan Singh.

"It was a disappointing game. The Indian team did not have any strategy or planning. If they had it was not implemented on the field," Harcharan, a member of India's1975 World Cup winning squad, told reporters.

He said if the home side does not win the ongoing World Cup here, Indian hockey's past glory may not be revived.

"We are hosting the World Cup and if we don't win this in front of home crowd, we won't be able to revive Indian hockey. This is the perfect chance for us to win the World Cup," he said.

He said the two-match suspension of Shivendra Singh was a harsh punishment and the striker's absence would be felt in the match against Spain.

"We have to win against Spain and we can do it. But Shivendra's absence will be felt just like in the match against Australia. The punishment on him was harsh and India is suffering from it," he said.
