Leverkusen set record but drop points

February 28, 2010 17:55 IST

Leaders Bayer Leverkusen set a Bundesliga record for the longest unbeaten start to the season when they drew 0-0 at home to Cologne on Saturday.

The draw extended Leverkusen's run to 24 league matches without defeat this term although Jupp Heynckes' team may come to regret dropping two points at home to a struggling mid-table team who lost 5-1 at home to VfB Stuttgart one week ago.

The draw lifted Leverkusen to 50 points, one ahead of Bayern Munich who host Hamburg SV on Sunday.

The previous record unbeaten run from the beginning of a Bundesliga season was set by Bayern in 1988/89 - when Heynckes was also coach.
