Top seed Tommy Haas suffered a first-round upset to Teimuraz Gabashvili 7-6, 7-5 on Monday at the Delray Beach International tennis tournament.
Russian Gabashvili won the first set tie-breaker 7-3 and took a 2-0 lead in the second before Haas stormed back. At 5-5, Haas had a break point but the persistent Gabashvili held on and then broke the German for a fourth time to close out the match.
World number 19 Haas has now lost two successive first-round matches.
